From emerald to peridot, you have plenty of precious stone options that work in any situation. Read on to discover your favorite gemstone in the jungle of green jewelry.
The Green Gemstones
Emerald:
When you think of a green gemstone this is most certainly the first gemstone that comes to mind. If you thought of a different gemstone, congratulations you are not like the general population as emerald is immensely popular all over the world as the go-to green gemstone. It's the default green stone in a way, as it will always be considered gorgeous until the end of time. Plus, Egyptian Queen Cleopatra thought they would stand the tests the time, and they certainly have.
Wearing Emerald: because emerald is so precious it is perfect for jewelry. The color alone is gorgeous and just desires to be put on a ring. However, if you have a super active lifestyle, experts advise against wearing an emerald ring. The stones are often filled with inclusion and imperfections that are prone to chipping and cracking under excessive force. This shouldn’t discourage you from getting an emerald ring, in fact, it emphasizes how delicate and precious the stone is. However, because of the inclusions, the gemstone is usually worn on a pendant or as an earring.
What to wear Emerald with: Emerald looks truly gorgeous alongside red. A vibrant crimson dress and an emerald pendant would look stunning together. Using red is an easy task if you have red hair because emerald just fits perfectly with red hair. We feel like it should be made into a law, if you have red hair you should wear emerald, it's too perfect a match.
Green also looks good with green! If you wear emerald, you might as well go all out on the green train. Additionally, another great color with green is black. The allure of a nice black dress or suit makes emerald gemstones seem like a classy addition to the outfit.
Peridot:
Peridot is probably the second most well-known green gemstone ever. It comes in a large array of green tones and gets rarer and more valuable the richer those tones are. For example, a peridot with a stark green color will be rarer than a peridot with a mild lime green tone. This is due to the fact that peridot with yellow tinges is more common.
One interesting fact about peridots is that they come from the sky! Well not literally, firstly they can fall out of the sky after they are shot out of a volcano. Secondly, they have been noted to be found in meteorites that hit the earth! If you aren't intrigued yet, just wait until you see some cool ideas, we have on wearing the stone.
Wearing Peridot: Peridot is a gentle giant, it feels more delicate and daintier than its other green stone sisters like jade and emerald, but still makes a huge statement. This is due to the hints of yellow in the stone that make it feel soft and inviting. Because of these traits, you can wear peridot really any way you want. On an earring, bracelet, ring, etc.
Peridot is also the birthstone of august, so why not get yourself a piece of peridot to celebrate?
What to wear Peridot with: peridot can be worn alongside lovely pink colors and yellow colors. For example, a simple pink shirt would look pretty with a peridot’s softer green hue. If you choose to buy deep green peridot you could opt for a yellow dress, these also look exceptional together.
Jade:
Jade is a lovely stone that has been used mainly as centerpieces on jewelry and rarely as a side stone. It's a stone that is just super majestic and was probably crafted by the earth for the purpose of ornamentation and flare. In a way, it's like Mother's Earth is telling us that her favorite is green!
Regardless of what the earth is telling us jade is a glorious gemstone. Plus, Jade can actually be a very affordable stone most of the time. We say most of the time because depending on the coloration, number of inclusions, and chemical structure of jade it can either be 5$ a carat or 2000$ a carat. Another reason is that jade comes in two forms Jadeite and nephrite, and prices vary within each stone variety.
Wearing Jade: Jade bracelets have been a tradition for centuries as it has been said that one who wears a jade bracelet is said to be closer to themselves and the world around them. Some people get really superstitious about it and tell you that you must wear jade on your left hand, or it won't have any effect on you. If you believe in these spiritual aspects of jade this might be a concern to you, but I think wherever you wear jade it will look wonderful. And as we all know looking wonderful makes us feel glorious.
What to wear jade with: You can wear jade with practically anything as it's a very versatile stone. Since the stone has a toned-down appearance wearing muted colors like a typical jean jacket would look perfect with the stone. Jade is one of those stones that look great but aren't so vibrant that it distracts others from the other aspects of your outfit. This means you can be sure to wear whatever outfit you want without the feeling of conflict.
Green Diamond
Wow, hold on now you mean to tell us you never heard of the green diamond before? That's crazy!
The green diamond is one of the lesser-known rare fancy diamond variants out there and we don't blame you for not knowing of its existence. Just like any other diamond the stone scores a super hard 10 on the Mohs hardness scale and is just as brilliant as a colorless diamond.
Whenever we see a green diamond we think of the Incredible Hulk™, and it's not just because they are both the color green. It's because like the hulk, these stones have been exposed to radiation in their formation process that gave them their incredible green hue. On top of that, they are practically indestructible like the hulk himself. Though we know the gemstones are not going to emit any harmful radiation, we can't guarantee the stone won't hulk out on you one day and join the Avengers™. It’s a risk worth taking.
Wearing Green Diamond: like all diamonds you can wear a green diamond in any scenario, on any part of your body, or in any setting without fear of breaking the stone. This means there are almost an infinite number of things you can do with green diamond to show it off. Thus, we have just one suggestion for you when you wear green diamonds, and that is to be creative. The green diamond is already a super rare stone and by just wearing it you already got some style points. So why not make it even better and knock it out of the park for your next setting, after all, green diamond deserves the glory. Maybe hire a professional, create a unique setting, and show the world just how unique you and the stone are. Dunkin's Diamonds has you covered if you need a custom ring setting. Check out our online store for more information.
What to wear Green Diamond with: Just like most green stones red looks super cool with green diamond. This is not an invitation to just go full-on red everything on your next get together, rather it is a suggestion to sprinkle in some red here and there. If you're a redhead then ignore this next step, you're already going to look glorious in green. Try and find something in your wardrobe that has red accents and pair them with the stone. It's a subtle way of making your stone pop even more than it already does.
Green Sapphire
OOh, the famous sapphire. we feel like green sapphire shouldn't be a thing. I mean it sounds like you are saying “fire” at the end of the word. And green things hate fire. But oh well, it worked out because dang does green sapphire look good! Green sapphire, another addition to the corundum family, is absolutely gorgeous to look at and hold. It's one of the green stones that you truly need to see in person before you pass on from this world. But don't fret if you don't get to see it before you go, I guarantee this stone resides in the afterlife, it's just that pretty.
Our obvious bias aside, green sapphires emit this wonderful pleochroism that makes it so that the stone seems to have many different colors of green depending on which angle you look at it. It's truly a mesmerizing sight and looks as if it should be able to give the wearer superpowers. There are also many other stones that aren't green that have this effect. Some of these stones actually have pleochroism way more than sapphire and if they interest you totally look them up!
Wearing Green Sapphire: Green sapphire can be worn in the same manner as you would with a green diamond as it scores a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale just under the diamond. For rings, they look exceptional when set with silver-colored bands like titanium or platinum. It even looks good in a deep yellow gold banding.
What to wear Green Sapphire with: green sapphire can be worn with red just like green diamond and the other green stones. Just make sure to be subtle with your addition of the color. Unless you plan to look like you are celebrating Christmas all year then go for it.
Honorable Mentions
- Green Garnet: These stones have a good amount of sparkle and can vary anywhere from mint green to a deeper true green.
- Bloodstone: This stone has a dark green body color and specks of red dotting its surface. The stone resembles something splattered with blood and because of this, the stone became a symbol of bravery for warriors in battle. We don't recommend presenting this ring as an engagement ring, it might be seen as a red flag.
Aventurine: A quartz stone variety that is a true sight to see. Its sparkles like no other stone with these dazzling white specks. These specks are actually formed by flat crystal inclusions called aventurescence and are what give aventurine its sparkle. These stones are greenish blue in color but can lean towards both sides of the color spectrum. - Green turquoise: did you know that turquoise can also be green? Weird right? This happens when the stone loses the substance that gives it its blue counterpart. These make for wonderful “unique” stone gifts.
